Shelly’s Serenity

A few weeks ago I received a message from a lovely lady all the way from America asking me to review her products, I know I get views on my page from our bearded brothers oversea’s and I was more than happy to oblige.  Shelly’s Serenity offer bespoke products which are made to the customers individual specifications, they keep a record of your preferences so that you can reorder it easily.  They are happy to work with you to get the product exactly as you want it, they also have an ever growing list of their own blends which are named after different authors.  The fragrance that I’ve been using is named Fitzgerald, with It’s mix of Lime, Clove and Patchouli the scent reminds me a bit of cola but not quite as sweet and it was nice and strong, If I’m going to spend good money on a scent that  I like I want others to smell it too. I want people to get a waft as I walk past, I don’t only wear a product to care for my beard I wear it to smell fresh too.

The balm was quite stiff in the jar but melted into a good oily consistency making for easy application to my beard. It comes in a 4oz (approx 113 grams) jar so there’s plenty of it and it should last.  It did a great job of leaving my beard soft and smelling good most of the day, I’m glad I got the chance to use it because I really did like it and hope to try some of the other fragrances in the future.

The oil I used was also called Fitzgerald, it smells as good as the balm and the fragrance is just as strong. It left my beard shiny, healthy looking and feeling nice and soft, It absorbed well into my beard and didn’t leave it feeling greasy. Shelly’s Serenity only use essential oils, meaning there is less chance of anyone suffering a reaction.  I think America makes use of a wider variety of essential oils meaning a greater selection of fragrances.  If you’re looking for something a bit different and you’re not from the states, I think it would be well worth spending a little extra on shipping fee’s. Flat rate $10 USD shipping to the UK.

Shelly’s Serenity offer lot’s of other types of products too, with some aimed at the ladies. This seems to me like good opportunity to buy your other half something special so they won’t be upset at you for treating your beard.  There’s body butter, body scrub, body lotion and soaps – this doesn’t mean much to me either but when you buy your loved one some of these you can sneak some beard care products into your order.

All the products they offer can be found on their Etsy store HERE

El Chupacabra Beard Oil

This is a new fragrance from the boys over at Big Bear Beard Balm, in the first review that I did for them I told you how they take their time to make sure the blend is right before launching a new fragrance, they’ve taken the same care and done exactly that with this one.  You can’t simply stumble into getting the right mix of carrier oils to get a product which has a good consistency and the quality that this oil offers, you need to work at it which takes time, they have took their time and have come up with a great oil yet again. It covers well and easily over your beard, it feels good too my beard was left feeling well conditioned and noticeably softer.

They have got the scent right too, this one is a fresh zesty blend with hits of cedar and again is strong enough to keep your beard smelling good for some time after applying.  I enjoy scents like this especially first thing in the morning as I think it gives you a good start to the day.

One of the things I like about the lads over at Big Bear Beard Balm is that right from the very start the one thing they asked for from my reviews was for me to be honest because they wanted real feedback.  I give my honest opinion in all my reviews but these lads made a point of asking for it.  Luckily they have produced the goods on all their products so far and are making quality beard oils and balms at good competitive prices.  They are helping turn boys into men one beard at a time.

Beard Lab Beard oil and Moustache Wax

lab black

I recently received some beard oil and moustache wax from Beard Lab to try out, I’ve not used many waxes so was looking forward to trying a new one.  I have yet to find a wax that I’m totally happy with, the ones I’ve tried so far either have little to no hold or I struggled to get the solid mess out of the tin.  Beard Lab is a company born from someone tired of having to ship quality products from the states. As well as great quality products they also have a good tip on their site for people new to growing a beard on how much oil to use.

The oil that I am trying out is a Cedarwood scent and it smells as you would expect it to, woody, a bit spicy and subtle but not so subtle that you can’t smell it. The oil left my beard feeling well conditioned and a friend commented saying how shiny my beard was looking.  It has a good consistency which covers the beard well meaning that a little should go a long way. The price of the oil is £6.99 for 30ml; a really good price for a great oil.  Beard Lab produce other fragrances too such as vanilla, spearmint, and spiced apple as well as some quite unusual ones, they even have a jelly bean blend!  I’ve not seen many other UK companies offering blends like this so you can save a few pounds on shipping from the states and their products are competitively priced anyway. Maybe they should be called bargain Beard Lab, I might have to reserve rights on that name just in case.

I don’t always style my moustache but when I do, I want a good hold without the product pulling out any of the hairs in my face while applying it , some have the consistency of a thick tar.  The Beard Lab wax was the complete opposite of that, in fact it reminded me of a good grease based pomade but stiffer.  It’s quiet hard in the pot but melts easy enough in the fingers and is easily applied, another good thing was it didn’t clump and leave little bits of wax in my moustache. Some of the waxes I’ve tried before have required me scraping a bit out with a small comb and melting it with a hair dryer, not with this one though. I’ve not had the chance to try it in wet or hot weather yet but on a dry normal day it held fine and kept my stache styled all day after only using a small amount. This has definitely been the best wax I have tried so far and at only £6.99 for 30ml it is a really good price. The wax is now on my list of preferred products and thankfully I won’t be tearing hair out when I use it.  Here’s a pic of me after using this wax.
